Sourcing footage for Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut ‘Molly’s Game’

Oscar-winning writer Aaron Sorkin is making his directorial debut with Molly’s Game this fall, which includes several creative montages produced by STALKR.

Molly’s Game stars Jessica Chastain as the title character, Molly Bloom. The film is based on Bloom’s memoir Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker, which recounts her experiences running an underground poker empire and becoming the target of an FBI investigation. Sorkin, known for writing countless hit films and shows like The Social Network, The West Wing, and Moneyball, wrote and directed the film.

The editorial team knew our work from Adam McKay’s acclaimed film The Big Short , and asked us to take on the challenge of finding the perfect footage to lend a visual narrative and real life context to Molly’s voiceovers in the film.

The project called for a huge variety of content, from professional sports, news, corporate signage, depictions of extreme wealth, gambling, pop culture and art.  The end result is an authentic portrayal of Molly’s story that places the audience in moments they recognize, rather than a Hollywood portrayal of a specific time and place.

Molly’s Game is set to release on November 22. You can catch the trailer here.
