A lot has changed in 50 years but one thing remains the same: the Toyota Corolla is a top pick among drivers everywhere.
To drive home that message, Toyota enlisted STALKR to create a brand spot that would showcase five decades of the reliable sedan.
The Corolla’s legacy begins in 1966 in Japan and has evolved over eleven generations across the globe. Interestingly enough, when Japan hosted the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, there became an immediate need for more infrastructure; roads to take families and larger numbers of visitors were rapidly constructed as population grew above the 100 million mark, and a sensible five-seater was a true necessity not just for the Games themselves, but for day-to-day life in the city.
With a booming economy, Toyota had the foresight to predict this need in the form of a compact family car between the then Toyota Publica and Toyota Corona models. Thus, the Corolla was born in an initial production of 30,000 units per month which at the time was an unprecedented figure and a huge risk for the company.
Not to spoil the story but that initial investment paid off in kind, and them some. The Toyota Corolla has sold 40 million units over the past 50 years and in the ‘90s became the best-selling nameplate in the world.
Celebrate the half-centennial of Corolla with a spot applauding every generation and every milestone this powerful passenger car has achieved.
