“See You Up There” launches HP computers into space through compelling archival footage from NASA spanning 50 years of American space history.
Mission preparation, training, suiting up, and launching into space are all covered in this 30 second spot from 180LA that celebrates HP’s contribution to historic and modern discovery. We pulled footage directly from NASA’s archive, independent sources who worked with the ISS, and documentaries to inform the narrative.
We were tasked with clearing both the footage and the astronauts themselves, allowing us to reach out to these heroes of scientific exploration and innovation. The brave pioneers represented, and their families for those who have passed, were so happy to be recognized, generous with their time, and incredibly humble that it almost demands the use of a “down to earth” pun.
The spot pairs epic moments from American history, like ISS footage and rocket launches, with more intimate glimpses into the lives of astronauts and their infectious personalities. Take first female pilot and first female commander of a space shuttle, Eileen Collins’ sweet moment of saying “Hi Mom” to the camera for instance. Individually these moments capture momentary takeaways from the astronaut experience, but together they form a compelling narrative of innovation in aerospace engineering, bolstered by HP.
